19/f
I've never taken a dance class in my life, but for some reason i've always wanted to. I've never really had the time until now. I'm really considering it but I'm not really sure what type of dance is best for beginners. I'm looking more into jazz, hip-hop, contemporary style of dancing. please no ballet or anything.
I guess i'm just asking if this is weird for me to start taking dance classes now?? most kids start when they're young like 6 years old, but i'm 19... wouldn't it just be weird if I showed up to some random studio alone without any dancing experience?
I feel like I really want to do this, but i have a little hesitation about actually doing it.. any advice on how to just do it and take a class??

Look at it this way, if you've seen the show "Dancing With the Stars," there are celebrities on there that are in their 50's and haven't taken a graceful step in their lives, and some will end up being one of the best dancers on the show. All I'm saying is, it's not too late for you to start a dance class. Whatever kind of dance you want to do, find a studio that has that type of dance in it.
I promise you this, if you are willing to start dance without any experience, and you work hard to become a great dancer, then you will BE a great dancer. [ kayliegirl125's advice column | Ask kayliegirl125 A Question ]

It's okay if you want to try it out there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe try jazz or hip hop to start out with. I'm actually thinking of doing ballroom dancing because it looks like so much fun I would love to compete. Be confident in yourself and don't compare yourself to anyone in the class. Everyone learns the dance steps differently. You might catch on to one step really quickly and then not get another dance step so quickly. If you want to dance and you think you might enjoy it than try it out and give it a shot. If you don't like it you don't have to continue going. Good luck! Well I think it's great that you're taking up dancing: Its a great way to keep fit, meet friends, and have fun!
I don't think you should be worried about the age thing. Its never too late to start to learn anything. A friend of mine is a dance instructor, and he gets dance pupils from a wide age range, going anywhere from 5 to 20/30ish!
I think you should google classes/schools or maybe check in the phone book? Give them a call, and see what types of dance class they offer. See if you can either sit in or take a taster lesson (usually free) to see if you enjoy it. Do this with a few classes/schools and see what you enjoy!
