Question Posted Tuesday August 16 2011, 11:24 pm

i suffered with eating disorders when i was about 17, a senior in high school. i'm 20 now and i have been recovered since i was about 18. i am happy with my weight right now. i'm at a VERY healthy weight, exercise regularly, and eat healthy. I went through anorexia, bullemia, and then bingeing when I started to recover. I would say bingeing was the scariest because it was when i realized i had a problem.

i have my period this week. I have had SO much blood! It was insane. I hadn't had that much for years. I needed to go to school today to buy my books and I decided to eat a salad at the student union. As I was eating, I started to feel like I was going to throw up. I felt sick and dizzy so I didn't eat. For dinner, my mom made some pasta. I didn't eat most of it because I felt to sick, still. I guess it was because of the period.

So, now, I felt hungry. When I stood up, my vision went black and I fell to the floor. I went to mcdonalds because there was nothing here and nothing else was open. I had 5 chicken nuggets and less than half the fries and a caramel sundae. I am scared that this is a binge. I know once in a while, I have to treat myself. But, I'm just scared because of what I went through. Just needed some comfort and thought I might find it here

Thanks

I'm not a doctor nor am I an expert on eating disorders. what I do know is that from what you wrote I tend to agree with you that this is a result of your period.

I know when my wife has her period and she gets painfully bloated she will not feel like eating and at times she will get some crazy cravings, almost like when she was pregnant.

What scares me is the black out; this is not normal and I do not believe is associated with your period or your eating disorder. Unless you have been cheating and not eating for more than you have written here.

First thing you need to do is contact your doctor about the black out. Then see if there is a support group for people with eating disorder in your area. IF you received professional treatment for your eating disorder the treatment center or hospital that treated you should be able to help you find one. Also your doctor may know of some.

From what you have written her my best uneducated guess is you did nothing wrong and we all treat ourselves to fun food every once in a while. Like I said my wife gets crazy cravings during particularly bad periods.

I would still like you to check with your doctor concerning the black out just to be on the safe side. As the saying goes and once of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
