2 week kitten losing fur

Question Posted Wednesday May 11 2011, 1:58 pm

I have 3 two week old kittens, and they are molting alot, so much they are going bald. :( I've had kittens this young before, and they never losed their fur. Their mum sadly died when they were one week old, so we've been feeding them special milk that we got from the pet store? Would this cause them to lose fur? If not, any idead what is? Thanks

It could be stress from losing their mother, you need to take them to the vet's and get them checked out properly. You don't say what caused the mother to die but if it was from infection etc she could have passed it on to the kittens. In either case they need to see a vet.

You might want to try giving them a little water in and eye dropper. I had a kitten like that. He was losing his fur and even having skin issues. I began giving him a little water between the feedings.

Contact a vet asap! Are they being attacked by fleas and ticks? You should clean whatever fur is left, because it could be an infection. The last thing you want are three dead kittens on your conscience. Please take them to the vet, their lives can be saved.

Awww :( poor things. I don't have any experience with kittens but it sounds to me like maybe they are just too young to be without their mother. I'm not sure if that formula is the best for them to have, it could be causing the fur loss or they may be sick. Have you contacted a vet? If not you should a.s.a.p

Good Luck!
