You People who answered my Suicide Question

Question Posted Sunday February 6 2011, 12:50 am

Those who wrote about not killing themselves have never faced financial ruin caused by economics.
Money is the breath and soul of life. Those who do not discuss money are hiding it.
Wouldn't you kill yourself if you lost everything as I have? I will find a painless way to kill myself,,, I will.

The fact that you are here, writing another question says that the advice you were given before worked, and that you don't really want to kill yourself.

Money doesn't make the world go round. Sure, it puts food on the table, but it doesn't make relationships work, it doesn't give you health and happiness, and it doesn't give you fulfillment. It's bits of paper with arbitrarily assigned values.

These things do happen to people, and yes, some people kill themselves because of it. That's because they put all their self-worth on those little bits of paper they were collecting.

If you have anything else going for you in your life: a talent, a relationship, a friendship, a hobby... that's where true fulfillment in life lies. I don't have money, but I do have happiness because of the relationships I've forged and the things I do.

Look. My parents lost over half of their retirement savings in the crash. Fortunately, it's building itself back up, but that was a lot to lose. They're not killing themselves over it. That's because money isn't life.

If you don't have relationships, make some. Volunteer, especially with those who are less fortunate than yourself. You can see how people can live life with even less than you have.

I'm going to tell you what I've told others who are seeking a painless way to commit suicide: there isn't one. Pills are commonly viewed as the least painful way, but I can tell you from (failed) experience that it isn't. It hurts more than you can possibly imagine. Damage to the liver and throwing up until you feel like you're about to vomit your intestines. Fun, huh? It just isn't painless. I've done the research, I've asked the same question. A painless method just doesn't exist.

Yes, rebuilding is hard. It sucks at times. Any pain you suffer in the process is repaid in happiness later on, though. Give it a chance.

I have two stories that correlate with that. I have my best friend who was staying over at my house while her parents were arguing over money and world itself. They got so tired of the argument, her father shot her mother then shot himself. I have a best friend who is absolutely devastated that they felt the need to something so drastic as this. By dying they ruined more than one life. I think that if you killed yourself, you would cause more problems than solutions.

The second story has to do with a co-worker of mine. She let her 2 year old son stay with her father before the bank decided to take his house. He has lost everything, house, children, wife, etc. He was so selfish to think that he couldn't survive in this world with nothing that he shot his 2 year old son in the arm to wake him up and then shot him in the head. He decided to set his house on fire, and finally killed himself.

I believe that the economy is really bad and I get why people do what they do. No matter what age you are, theres always a solution. There online jobs, theres telemarketing if your desperate, etc. I don't even know if you are a religious person or not, but I believe this is a test, and you are giving up because you feel that dying is the way out. I am afraid that our death's are the least of our problems.

There are different types of financial ruin. As long as you are not facing prison you can start over. Even if you are facing prison, when you get out you can start over.

Given today's economic times, high unemployment, foreclosures, bankruptcies do not have the stigma they had as recently as just 5 years ago. Even when they did it was not a reason to end ones life.

By contemplating suicide you are admitting failure. I for one do not think you are a failure. There where and are many circumstances that worked against the brightest of financiers to cause many to loose much if not all of their worth. This is not the 1930's, you do not see bankers and investors jumping out the windows on wall street. The smart people, the young and the old, who played the financial market to amass great wealth are doing what they can to keep what they can.

You say you are facing financial ruin. To me that means you are not quite yet there. Stop belly aching about it. You must be a smart person to get wherever it is you are and to accumulate whatever you have.

Get some help to clear the cob webs of depression from your head and then do what I believe you know how to do. Protect as much of what you built as you can. Horde it, become stingy with your spending. Sure you won't have the life you are accustomed to, that won't last for ever.

The present economy won't last for ever either. While the economy is mending, you mend yourself. As you mend you watch for the openings that allowed you to have financial success in the past. It will happen again and you will want to be here to take advantage of it for when those things start to occur it is going to be big and it is going to be fast. You are going to want to jump on the band wagon and once again ride the high you have known. This time you will be a little wiser and secure some of your wealth from any future down turns.

This is not a pipe dream. My parents lived through the great depression. They and their parents felt just as you do know. Look what happened. We had half a century of great wealth until someone(s) got greedy. The world will get wealthy again, don't you want to be there when it does?

no, i wouldn't. I'd do what I've always done, pick up the pieces and try to make shit better. chill the fuck out, get ahold of some fortitude, and man the fuck up.
you're not going to kill yourself. because if you really wanted to, it would have already happened. so face the facts, this is a cry for help. consider it answered, people on the internet actually care enough about another human life to write page-long responses to people like you. do these answers make you feel loved or something? they shouldn't. They should make you think about what a stupid fucking Idea it is to fucking kill yourself.
so now that we've cleaned that up, go get some psychiatric help for your depression.

This is about money?

Okay, here's my perspective:
There is a LOT more to life than money. Yes, I realize that money is a necessity to survive, and yes, at the moment, I have a full-time job with benefits that I quite enjoy. However, I make $9 an hour, and my checking goes down to nearly zero monthly because I have a cat to take care of, I'm trying to finish my second Bachelor's, and my parents and I agreed that they wouldn't pay for anything else, as they're struggling financially as much as I am, if not more. They also fronted me some very important money to help me get out of my ex boyfriend's house and rebuild my life, as he took a great deal of what I had in my account.

No, I wouldn't kill myself, period. I would take a whole lotta deep breaths and figure out how to move forward. In your first question, you complained about no one caring about you - are you homeless? You're on the internet, but you could've gone to the library or a coffeeshop, or something, so I can't judge by that.

Enough with the vagueness. Tell me how you lost everything. Convince me that there's no way to fix the mess you're in. I'm not saying I'm in a bigger mess, but there's ALWAYS a way out, and it's never suicide.
I know you're reaching out for help, whether or not you think you are. You're back on here threatening to find a painless way to kill yourself, but asking us questions.
Maybe if you give us some more details about what's going on in your life, we can brainstorm up a way to get you out of this hell.
Please, indulge me. Let me try.
What've you got to lose?
