Is lotion ok and safe to use as lube during sex?

Question Posted Monday January 3 2011, 9:32 pm

My boyfriend and have been having a lot of sex and he said it'd be easier if we used some lube to get things started at first because I don't get really, really wet. I have some lotion (unscented and scented varieties) here and I was wondering if that works okay as lube for sex or not? We're both kind of young and we're both embarrassed to go to the the store for sex lube lol So, does lotion work well?

Don't use any household product as lube! And that goes for everyone reading this.

Like WittyUserName, I too hope you're using protection. And seeing as one of you can buy a box of condoms, you might as well buy the lubricant too. If you can't muster buying a box of condoms and a bottle of lube, I really wouldn't recommend having sex. If you're having sex, be proud about it, and be proud that you're being safe too...with that, if you want to prove to yourself AND your partner that you're practicing safe sex, you should be more than comfortable to buy what you need.

Also, if you go to your local drugstore to buy condoms, lube, or any kind of necesity, you should go to the pharmacy counter if that makes you feel any better or less embarrassed. Sexual health care should not be embarrassing, so buy these items with pride.

I hope I helped :)

Noooooo. Lube is designed for those areas, whereas everyday lotions aren't. They'll dry out and will probably cause infections as well as damage condoms.
Get the original KY jelly. It doesn't say "FOR SEX!!!!KJSHKFDH" all over it - it's a lubricant which can be used with sexual intercourse as well as many other things.. so it's not exactly embarrassing to buy. :)

If you're too embarrassed to go buy lube you're too young to be having sex. This is why we tell kids not to sleep together, you're not mature enough to handle even the most mundane of sex related activities. Do you blush when you buy condoms too? (Please God tell me one of you buys condoms)

To directly answer your question, no, you should not put anything in your vag that wasn't designed for that purpose. Buy lube or stop having sex, preferably the latter.

I don't recommend using lotion only because it is not meant for that purpose. Using lotion for sex can cause infections. If you and your boyfriend are embarrassed to go to a sex store well a solution to your problem...Lube is also sold at pharmacies and Walmart normally ranging from 8-20 dollars.
