I literally went to the doctor yesterday because I am 3 weeks late for my period. I took 2 at home pregnancy tests and they came back negative, so I thought I had something dying in me...nope...
Birth control pills make it to where I CANT eat in mornings or afternoons...I haven't been on birth control for 4 months now, and I still can't eat during the day without getting sick, it became permanent. Well the do for told me I had lost a HUGE amount of weight in very little time..she called me extremely under weight for my age and height (22 5ft1in average weight was 127lbs and now I'm barely 105) I lost that in just 2 weeks, not the 4 months...my doc said that if I don't find a way to change my eating habit, my heart is next to give out..so what I suggest for you, is trying birth control pills(hoping they won't have the same effect on you as me) that you take for 3 months then have a period. Or just a type of birth control that helps manage your period, an IUD completely stops your period while it's in and you have them anywhere from 3-10 years! Don't just stop eating!!! You do t want heart failure and neither do I!!! I hope this helps you out a little, I would just hate to hear about someone dying over their period.. There are other ways to make your period more bearable.
You can go the natural route. This involves tons of exercise, eating light, healthy meals, drinking lots of water, avoiding caffeine and chocolate and taking Midol. This will fix most peoples' problems.
Otherwise, you can go on birth control. There are some that give you fewer or no periods, but most of them lighten it without the side effects of the stronger ones. Talk to your doctor and let them know that you're having uncomfortable periods, and they can help you out with choosing the best one for you. [ NinjaNeer's advice column | Ask NinjaNeer A Question ]

You seem to get this idea from the fact that you have to have a certain amount of body fat to menstruate, so if you are a really tiny girl or very thin you may not menstruate. Starving yourself to achieve that is unrealistic and unhealthy. Having a period is a sign that you are healthy and your body is functioning properly, so you should appreciate it even though it does seem like a pain in the butt right now.
Lay off the salt and sugar while you are on your period to skip the bloating and keep you in a good mood. Exercise, baths, and even some over the counter medicine like midol, aspirin, etc can make your period more comfortable.
