I tried to kill myself, do I go to hell for trying?
Question Posted Monday November 8 2010, 11:16 pm
Thank you for taking the time to look over this, I was wondering I'm not a person who is a member of the church but I do believe there is something waitin for us on the other side, but I want to know, awhile back I attempted killing myself , because I did this did it send me to hell once I die?
LetMeHelp answered Monday January 24 2011, 8:45 am: In my opinion-no one goes to heaven or hell. How can you have such a black and white existance?Though,I don't believe in life after death etc etc...but if you do, I completely respect that.
I am studying sociology in school and recently we had a discussion in class about 'social control'.
It was raised that the concept of 'heaven' and 'hell' is one of these controlling factors-like reward and punishment. If you're good, you go to heaven and if you sin, you go to hell.Everyone is grey.So I don't think you can catagorize.
Moreover, you'll only know when you get there. And instead about worrying about what awaits you focus on the present. You tried to commit suicide.Okay.Fine.That's done and over with. Now concentrate on making your life something where you won't feel the need to kill yourself. The past has passed. The present is the most important.

You know, God is the only judge of a person's soul. With that in mind, I would only offer my thoughts on the matter.
Repentance is a very serious thing. If you have repented of that line of thought, I would say that under the basic teachings of Christ, you would have the forgiveness that is promised.
If you attempted to kill someone else, but were unsuccessful, then turned from whatever thinking drove you to that bad decision and asked God for forgiveness, what do you think the outcome would be?
If you are unaware, there is a very good example in the story of Christ's life. When he was killed, among the last things he did was to ask God to have forgiveness toward the very people who crucified him.
Certainly, if you repent and seek forgiveness, you are promised it.
If you need help with what drove you there in the first place, I urge you to talk to someone in person who can help. If that isn't possible, please consider creating an account here (just so you get e-mails when you get an answer) and let people help you in whatever way they are able.
If you are still having thoughts of hurting yourself, please know that there is help. Many people are more than willing to help you, and there really ARE answers that will work for you... I promise. [ DangerNerd's advice column | Ask DangerNerd A Question ]

If you had actually done it, then yeah you would be, because they is no way to ask for forgiveness, but now that you didn't do it, if you truly ask for forgiveness and God looks at your heart and see that you mean it, then yeah he will forgive.
once he forgives you, he forgets about it and you should too. Live your live happily and follow in his footsteps and you will be fine

It's only a sin if you know it's wrong and if you do it even though you know it's wrong. Technically, that was a great sin. Especially for wanting to put an end on life- the gift that God took out of his time to create. It took him centuries. He finally had this beautiful creation and he decided which one of his angels he felt should recieve this gift of life. With his hands, God, your father made you into a child of God and laid you in your mother's room. God loves you. He would absolutely dislike the fact that you would like to take your life away. That's like you spending years to make a gift for someone you love, a family member, or a friend and once they get it, they like it. But as they had the present, they went through rough bumps and so one day they decided that they didn't like the present anymore. So they decided that they wanted to destroy it and have it be gone forever? How would you feel if they completely destroyed a present you spent years mkaing for them all because they were upset with a few things and just wanted to give up? you only live life once... And especially if one kills themself unfortunately they will not have the eternal life they desired. So there is really no point. So yes, that is an incredible sin. BUT, you didn't kill yourself.. So you didn't commit any major sin? But you did make a bad one by attempting. If you are utterly sorry then god will forgive you. But you have to be sorry with your whole heart and soul. Sorry means that you will never do it again. Be sorry and you are fine... Live this wonderful gift the way god would want you to. After all, he is our father<3 [ xoxogabriella's advice column | Ask xoxogabriella A Question ]
nikz answered Tuesday November 9 2010, 9:20 am: well it is a sin in christianity to commit suicide or even try to, but god loves everybody equally and will forgive you for your past mistakes remember he sees everything you won't go to hell and if you do pray, pray and ask him for forgiveness you won't go to hell unless you know deep down in your heart that you are sorry for doing it and then again do we really even know if there is a heaven and a hell?
