What can you get from the dermatologist with insurance?

Question Posted Saturday September 25 2010, 1:22 pm

What can you get from the dermatologist with insurance? I really want to get rid of my acne, Ive been having really bad bumps all over my face and dark scars for 7 years and I don't feel confident because of it. Ive tried Doxycycline a long time ago and it didn't work. now the dermatologist gave me some yesterday and I don't think it will work. I wanna try something else like the pills, chemical pill or other cream. the dermatologist was talking about chemical peels, birth control and cream, do I have to pay for most of that even though I have insurance? What will insurance get?

It all just depends on what insurance company you have and what your plan is. Most insurance policies don't cover 100% of anything, so you will have some sort of the copay. The newer the drug, usually the more expensive. Ask your doctor for something that has a generic available (meaning the patent has run out, so it's older than 7 years old). I would say just to talk to your doctor about it and let him/her know that cost is an issue because he/she will know more about the price of things and what is best for you.

If you want to go to the doctor more prepared, you can look up your insurance plan online. My insurance company lets me sign in on their website with an account, and you can search for any drug and they will tell you what your copay will be.
