The basic steps to the Scientific Method that you definitely need to do IN ORDER are (and, yes, there is no harm in numbering your paper for this ):

1. Define the question
2. Gather information and resources (observe)
3. Form hypothesis
4. Perform experiment and collect data
5. Analyze data (observe)
6. Interpret data and draw conclusions that serve as a starting point for new hypothesis
7. Publish/Report results
8. Retest (frequently done by other scientists)

The length of your conclusion varies greatly based on your experiment. In the classroom, your conclusion should be at least one full paragraph, which is between 3 and 5 sentences. More than one paragraph may be needed for you to complete your conclusion, depending on what the outcome and observations you noticed during the experimental process.

Talk with your instructor about the length to ensure you get the right information down. Some would rather the conclusion be something short and to the point while others want full of minor and major detail.
