how i can get birth control without my family knowing?

Question Posted Monday August 30 2010, 2:15 pm

14/f

I am wondering how i can get birth control without my family knowing. Also obviously I can not drive yet. I want birth control for two reasons, one to reduce my period because I have to change a super tampon every 2-1/2 hours and also, if I might want to lose my virginity at some point. I just wanna be extra safe against stds and pregnancy. can you please help me? Its urgent.

Just tell them that its because you have heavy and V painful periods. You cannot have anything on prescription eg. pill. Without having someone over 16 sign for it.

Every 2 1/2 hours is ridiculous, try talking to your mom about it. It's not about having sex, it's about changing period patterns. It shouldn't be as a big a deal as you'd think. You don't even need a parent to take you to get birth control, you can get it yourself, you just need to find transportation. If you have a sister/brother/friend that can drive. Ask them for help. Or like a super cool aunt or uncle, or cousin. If not you can look up taxi company's in your area. Just be aware of the costs of birth control & taxi's.

By the way, I just want to say also, when you say that you do want to lose your virginity at some time, and you want birth control also so you can be extra safe against stds and pregnancy....birth control DOES NOT HELP protect against stds. For your own health I just want you to be aware that if you do end up getting birth control (which i hope you do, cause that period situation would not be my cup of tea) that it will NOT at all protect against stds, so it would be better if you do end up having sex that you use condoms and the pill. Just be careful with that.

Hope this helped, Good luck with birth control!

I agree with the below. A super every 2.5 hours is absolutely ridiculous, and a perfect justification for what you want.

Planned parenthood is a second option, but your mother should be easier to convince than you think. The trick here is to be dismissive of the sex idea. If she brings it up "Mom, I'm not having sex, I have no plans to have sex, sex isn't what we're talking about, so if you want to bring it up later you can but for right now we're talking about dealing with my absolutely horrid period."

Just redirect conversation back to your justification and stress "Every 2.5 HOURS!" every chance you get. Tell her how embarrassing it is to feel like you either have to run out of class or bleed a little bit because your body is grouchy one week a month.

I have two ideas for you. One, you could talk to your mom and tell her that you want to get on birth control JUST to reduce your period. or two, if you have an older friend or sister, someone you can trust, have them bring you to planned parenthood or somewhere you can get birth control. They'll keep it confedential and your parents will never know. Good luck! :)
