20 yr old dating a 14 yr old
hi im kayla and i have a really important question!.. can a guy go to jail for being 20 yrs of age and dating a girl who is 14 turnin 15 right before he turns 21 can he go to jail an is that ok cuz to me it sounds fine as long as they dont do anithing are they wrong for this?? please answer as soon as possible .. thanx i would really appreciate it !!!!!!

I am a great deal older than most of the advisers on this site, so my advice will be somewhat different from what you have received and may continue to receive from others.
How many different ways do you need to be told this relationship is wrong? Lets’ start with the legal definition of wrong: The man you are dating is 6 years your senior; in many States just the fact you are dating could constitute statutory rape even though you may not have had sex. If you two have crossed any State lines together, without your parents’ permission, this is a violation of the Mann Act which is a Federal Law. Then of course they can throw in contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possible kidnapping charges and a host of other charges depending on the State you live in.
If this man is not a sexual predator, which I believe him to be, then something must be wrong with him as a normal 20 year old man does not date a 14 year old girl. He has to want something from you he cannot get from a woman his own age. Eventually he is going to want sex from you, just when, where and how is yet to be determined.
Most likely it is your sexual inexperience he is after and just what his plans may be I have no idea. What I do know is that you are in danger and need to stay away from this man. You need to tell your parents about him and about your relationship with him. As I said above I believe this man to be a predator and your parents will most likely agree with me. They will know what action to take to protect you.
You wrote us because your instincts tell you something is wrong. Follow your instincts and follow my advice to inform your parents. Have I tried to scare you with what I have written here? The answer is a definite yes. As I have said I believe you to be in danger, maybe not immediate danger but you are in danger every time you see this man.

Hm , that's a little off , BUT you got to be careful who you are choosing , if you really like this guy , then go for him , but be aware of what can happen , he can end up going to jail if something doesn't go right , if your parent's don't know , be sure to know that sometime they will find out , and know how they will react to it. Your young and just learning , but you need to know the things that can happen. It's alright love comes at any age really , but you have to be able to know that this kind of stuff can hurt you , or him. My advice to you is nothing is going wrong just odd , but just don't take the wrong road , if you really want this and know what can happen it's your choice , but if you don't know since your asking , maybe best to stick with guys the same age , but it's your choice. He can go to jail for this , but be aware.

Something that wasn't pointed out earlier is this:
It is hard to prove a negative.
In other words, if someone THINKS you guys are having sex, he will end up in jail unless he can find a way to prove that he didn't so much as talk dirty to you. It just can't be done.
You also have to ask yourself why he isn't with someone his own age. There are very limited reasons why a man his age would be risking the rest of his life to be around you.
He knows that if anyone calls the cops, his butt is gone, possibly for several years... so why is he risking that?
Please think about that. I have seen a number of people here end up in awful situations after being used by their older partner.

Only if you two are engaging in any sort of sexual contact. This includes "dirty talk" just for the record.
Otherwise, it will become your word against his if your parents decide to press charges. If they even THINK he might be touching you sexually your parents can call the police and go to court for a hearing.
Most of the time, a judge will believe the parents (who care for their daughter) more than a 20 year old that is seeking a youngster to date.
Talk with your parents before dating this guy to get an idea of how they feel about it. You don't want to get into a 6 month relationship and then your parents freak out when they learn his age. Talk with them first and ask them if they'd like to meet him before you two go out. Be mature and upfront with your parents and they're likely to understand and may even be able to bond with the guy.

If you guys are sexually active then yes he can go to jail because that's illegal. You're a minor still. That much of an age difference is not normal, and most likely sex is the reason a 20 year old man would be with a 14 year old girl. If this doesn't change your mind, then be very very careful and please don't get into a bad situation where he can take advantage of you.
