I was reading about some different exercise techniques because I want to lose some pounds. This one place was talking about doing CRUNCHES. From the diagram, it looked kind of like a sit-up to me. Are they the same thing or...? What's the difference between a crunch and a sit up? Thanks.
For both exercises you lay on your back on the floor. For situps, it's easier to have someone holding your feet so that they don't fly up. From there you just use your abdominal muscles as pull your whole self up to your knees, then back down.
For crunches, the first thing to remember is to keep the small of your back pinned against the floor; you sort of pivot your pelvis up a bit so you can't fit your hand between your back and the floor. Put your hands on the back of your head, elbows spread out, then pretend there's a string on your solar plexis and just raise up your head and shoulders toward the ceiling. Doesn't hurt? Do about 50 and FEEL THE BURN. I think crunches are better; less chance of hurting yourself doing situps and a great burn from the crunches, which strengthens your core.
Are you trying to make me feel guilty or something? :0
vikkikimberly answered Tuesday August 3 2010, 8:31 am: as sit up you bring your chest up to your knees. a crunch you only go as far as you need to (when you feel the "pull" in your muscles.
they are supposed to work your body in different ways.
some say sit ups can stress you tummy muscle too much too.. im not sure on that one though [ vikkikimberly's advice column | Ask vikkikimberly A Question ]
