Divorce question...?

Question Posted Wednesday May 26 2010, 9:10 pm

This just randomly popped into my head the other day but when 2 people get divorced does the woman keep the mans last name?

Example:

Mary Ann White married John Young and so Mary became Mary Young...then they divorce. Would Mary go back to being Mary White or stay Mary Young? I'm confused

It is the woman's choice, but many keep their husband's name because it is a very long and tiring process to legally change your name. My mom got hers changed from my dad's last name to her new husband's last name and it took a long time and she had to get everything that had her name on it remade...

It's the womans choice. If they want their maiden name back they can but many stick with their married name. My mom kept her married name and most people do because it gets confusing if you have kids since they'd have different last names.
