Everytime me and my boyfriend have sex a few times I seem to develop a small bladder infection. I make sure I wash real well and I usually pee right afterwards. I know he is clean. Is there any way I can precent this? Also I get kinda itchy afterwards. Like I said I make sure I clean very well. Is there anyway I can prevent that also?
LiLReBeL6907 answered Monday May 3 2010, 1:33 pm: There are several reason why a girl can get a bladder infection. Now, first, are you 100% positive it is a bladder infection. If you are having a burning sensation when you pee, it is slightly painful around your abdomen when you use the bathroom, and it feels itchy, it is likely you have a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). They have a kit that you can buy at your local drugstore that takes only a few minutes and tests your PH levels inside your vagina. This test only costs about $15 and based on the PH level of your vagina it will tell you if you have a UTI, yeast infection, etc. Also, you cannot have had sex that day before taking the test because semen can effect your PH levels. But I suggest getting this test so that you are 100% sure what you are experiencing, since it is imporant to accurately diagnose your symptoms. Once you have figured out what you have, you can take the proper medicine to solve it.
Now you say that you clean well afterwards. Do you douche? If you douche regularly I suggest you stop. Douching is a very bad for you vagina. It can actually cause an infection. Over cleaning your vagina actually cleans out the important "good" bacteria that helps fight and kill infection. So if you clean too much you may actually be allowing bacteria to cause infection, and your body has no defense to kill it off, which may explain why you are having this re occur often.
There is no way to prevent UTI and Yeast Infections, but if you can find out the underlying causes as to why you might be having this occur often, like over cleaning/ douching, etc. then you can hopefully decrease these infections. If you have eliminated these possible factors and you are still frequently having these problems, I suggest you go see your gynocologist immediately, because frequent infections are symptoms of larger underlying problems.
