I want to try dyeing my hair different colors, and I want to see which one really suits me as quickly as possible. So when you have nonpermanent haircolor, how long does it last? Can you just wash it out or does it wear off more quickly than the other ones?
Thank you for all your help!
PS even if you don't know all the answers please just give me your experiences with hair coloring.

From my experience, the lighter the hair color, the longer it stays and the better the color looks.
Also, if your hair is already dyed, you can't dye over it. The color won't show up well, if at all.
As for the dye, you should talk to whoever's working in the store. I always use semi- or demi-permanent dye, and it has rarely stayed in my hair as long as promised. Certain brands have stayed in two weeks, others, months.
If you REALLY want hair color to stay, use heat and be generous with the dye. Some people wrap their hair in aluminum afterwards; I blow dry it like a maniac (this isn't good for your hair, though).
If you just want to try out colors, I'd recommend the brand Manic Panic (this brand is only for non-natural colors, though). I've never used it myself, but I've heard it's really crappy and washes out quickly. [ SarcasticGreetings's advice column | Ask SarcasticGreetings A Question ]

You can get the come-in kind if you just want a basic idea of how a color will look, and those come out as soon as you wash your hair. Or if you wanted something that lasts a little bit longer, you could get a semi or demi permanent hair color that comes out after so many washes or after a few weeks.
