Question Posted Sunday March 28 2010, 2:54 pm

i broke up with my boyfriend of two years about five weeks ago. writing, especially songwriting was my life. we even did music together and recorded it and stuff. but i havent written anything since we brokeup. i really want to but it reminds me of him it just hurts, plus i dont know where to start its like my gift has been totally flushed away for good. even my notebooks of songs vanished. what can i do??

Ok, i'm a songwriter too, and i've had my happy moments and my sad moments.
When you're sad about your ex, write about how you feel! you don't always have to write about good things.
sometimes my better songs come from my worst moments. they seem more real than butterflies and flowers, and they help me get out of my funk :)
maybe you have to just wait a while, too. once you get over your ex, or find a new happiness, you'll get your swing back.
hope this helped! :)

Well, I'm a songwriter too actually and all my songs are based on a guy I like too. So...I can relate a little bit. Well, let me just say this...you haven't lost your talent. Your talent is still with you. You think you've lost it because deep down you still might be depressed about the breakup. Think positive to release the stress you've been putting on yourself. Don't feel down all the time. Be happy!

Start over again! Write even better songs. Be driven to do so. Honey, you couldn't lose a gift like that if you tried.

It may seem like that temporarily but nobody and nothing can take away a natural ability God has given. Hang in there. You don't want to write just yet as the pain is fresh and writing reminds you of him. In the future it won't.

Give it a little time. It's not flushed away for good. Keep a notebook through this experience of thoughts and ideas. Soon when ready you'll be able to make it into music.

The best songs come from pain. Confront yours as I think the inability to do so and try to write about it is holding you back.
