okay so here's the deal all my family and friends are going on a cruise in July and I am in no shape to go. I need advice on how I can go from a size 13 to an 8 in less then 4 months. like diet tips and workout routines all that. Please help me! THANK YOU
1. Set Goals - Before you start an exercise and diet program to get back into shape in six weeks, set some reasonable goals for yourself. When I did it, I set two goals: 1) exercise for at least 30-45 minutes six days a week and 2) lose at least 3 pounds a week. That meant that, with a six week 'getting into shape' plan, I was likely to lose around 18-20 lbs and be much more toned up.
2. Eat Healthier/Natural Food - Just because you're trying to get back into shape, doesn't mean you don't eat. Think about what you normally eat (for most of us it's high-fat junk food, which is why we're out of shape in the first place). Substitute your normal diet with low-fat foods, fish, chicken, fruits and vegetables, low fat yoghurt and milk, some nuts, beans, wholewheat bread - basically all the healthy stuff. It's amazing how, just eating healthy food, can get you back into shape and it tastes good too.
3. Stop Eating Sugar - One of my failings is eating too much sugar. Cut out the sugar. If you must have sugar in coffee, try to cut it down to less than one teaspoon (I don't agree with sugar substitutes like aspartame, as they have been shown to cause problems with the brain etc). Otherwise, only eat natural sugars from fruit. it's quite easy to get into shape in six weeks if you don't eat processed sugars.

Start walking around your neighborhood for a week or so, everyday for about 30 minutes-1 hour. After this try running everyday or every other day for 20-25 minutes. Walking and then running will help build up your endurance.
Try lifting weights daily or every other day. You can go to the gym or lift at home. You could also do plain push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, squats, leg lifts, etc.
You can approach your diet a couple of ways. I've heard that eating five small meals a day instead of three larger meals a day is very effective for some people. This way you aren't starving by your next meal and you won't overeat or snack inbetween because you have already eaten. Eat more veggies and fruits, lean meats and fish. Try to have five servings of fruits and veggies a day (it's tough but you could always try 100% fruit juice with no sugar added or V8 juices which contain a full serving of fruit and veggies) Drink eight glasses of water a day, and you could drink green tea which is so good for you and yummy :)
Like I said I'm really no expert but those are just some little things that you could try. I hope it works for you and good luck! [ mandyx3's advice column | Ask mandyx3 A Question ]
