This may not work for you, but its an easy fix if its the problem. I've noticed firefox recently is sometimes not shutting down properly. As a rule when you go to use it again it will tell you its already running, but just check because it only takes a minute.

Hit control alt delete together. Go to processes and see if firefox or mozilla firefox shows up anywhere. If it does, click on end task. Then it should start for you.

First, I would try right-clicking and selecting "open". If that doesn't work, your computer could possibly have a virus, so I would do a virus scan to rule that out. If that's not the problem, it's possible that another program (such as a virus scanner) is preventing firefox from opening.

This site has some steps you can try: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

You could try uninstalling then reinstalling firefox, too.
