Don't make it all be about the relationship, just enjoy things together, have laughs, have fun.
Personally, I think the best friend qualities come within time, I know they always have for me. I find the beginnings of relationships exciting as we get to know one another, then gradually, it slows itself down, and you learn to be in each others company a lot.
Just chill out together. If your relationship is quite "physical" perhaps tone it down and just relax, watch a film, go for a drink, walks, indulge in your hobbies, etc.
Also, why don't you ask him his views on the situation and how you two can achieve it.
Good luck. :)

I'm best friends with my boyfriend too :)

Some things that we do together is we shop, For example if I need something I'll ask for his opinion on it. We also go out ALL the time, One of the things we both love to do is play pool on the weekends. Since we both enjoyed it so much we recently decided to join a pool league. Little things, Find something you both love to do and take it from there. :) Another thing I do with my boyfriend is sometimes we won't do anything at all (lol) We will simply go for a drive grab a coffee and park somewhere and talk our heads off for hours about anything.

Walks, bowling, Shopping, etc.

Hi there :) well, my boyfriend and I are best friends, so here are some things that I think make us so close:

-We talk about EVERYTHING together...if one of us is feeling sad, the other will try to make them feel better. No matter what it is, communication is key to ANY relationship, whether it's romantic or friendly.

-I try to take an interest in his hobbies and talk to him about it or ask him to teach me. For example, he likes to play guitar, so I asked him to teach me a song or two. If he likes video games, go to his house and play some with him. It doesn't matter if you're good or bad at his hobby, just the fact that you make an effort gets you points :)

-Go on fun dates, not just the whole dinner and movies thing. There's plenty of fun date ideas all over the internet that can be found with a quick google search. Going on fun dates gives it more of a friendly atmosphere. You can even go on a double date with some friends, those are always fun.

Basically, just let him know that you care and that you want your relationship to be fun too, not just a boyfriend-girlfriend thing. Hope I helped!

-Jess
