odor

Question Posted Wednesday February 17 2010, 4:45 pm

i posted a question on here a while back about being unsure about whether or not i had a yeast infection. well, i'm pretty sure i don't, considering i'm not "uncomfortable" and i don't itch. but i do smell terrible. i went to the store recently and got some vaginal deodorant, but it only seems to work for about an hour, and then i smell really bad again. i spray it on/around my vaginal area and in my underwear because it said to do that for extra strength, but it still wears off.

does anyone know of any good products that could get rid of this horrid odor? it's frustrating me to no end. thanks for any advice.

You may need to douche and if it doesn't work go to the gynecologist.

If you are having an ongoing issue with this, you need to see a doctor to make sure there is no underlying medical problem
You especially need to see a doctor if you are sexually active, because that is a symptom of some STDs.

From MayoClinic.com:

"Causes
By Mayo Clinic staff

Commonly, vaginal odor may be caused by:

* Bacterial vaginosis
* Chlamydia
* Gonorrhea
* Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
* Poor hygiene
* Yeast infection

When to see a doctor
By Mayo Clinic staff

If you have persistent vaginal odor, see your doctor.

In the meantime, to minimize vaginal odor:

* Wash your external genital area. During regular baths or showers, use a very small amount of mild, unscented soap and lots of water.

* Avoid douching. All healthy vaginas contain some bacteria and other organisms. The normal acidity of the vagina keeps bacteria and yeast in check. But douching can actually upset this delicate balance."
