uhm... my boyfriend! eek!

Question Posted Monday February 8 2010, 6:55 pm

I am fourteen/F and my boyfriend is sixteen/M...
Annnd he has mono. Hahaha. Yeah, so for about two weeks he had this sore throat that he neglected to tell me about... so on saturday I made out with him. Today, Monday, he goes to the doctor. Heyyy... he has mono. Soo. I think I'm screwed... Hahah i mean we made out... a lot... and yeah. So this is gonna be a little tricky. I have some questions:
1. Mono lasts a long time right? He's saying like a month. How can I help HIM through this? For a month??
2. How am III going to deal with this? He said we're not allowed to kiss... for a month!! :(
3. How are WE going to deal with this? Once people find out he (and maybe even me) have mono, I feel like we're gonna get teased... for a month! Hahah.
4. ... I'm gonna get mono aren't I?
All in all, this is gonna be a long time. How do I handle this?

We can not tell you if you are going to get mono or not. it really depends on your immune system. Now if you two really like each other youll be able to not kiss each other. cuddle with each other watch movies etc. as well as mono lasting along time it makes you very tired.

Well, I had mono myself and it is quite the sickness. It does last a pretty long while, you usually only experience the effects for a week or so, depending on the severity. However, the virus stays in your body for a decent amount of months, sometimes even a year! :0 (I saw that on the internet when I searched it when I had it) That kinda freaked me out but I didn't show any effects or anything but I was still cautious.
And I know mono is labeled as the "kissing disease," but it's transmitted through saliva so you can get it from sharing drinks with someone, etc.
To answer your number 1, it lasts depending on the severity, like I said. but to help him out, just be there for him and care for him when he's sick. It's basically just a really painful sore throat and fatigue. (there can be other symptoms as well).
For number two, I know its hard to not kiss, but unless you want to expose yourself to the virus even more, then I strongly suggest you resist. (as hard as it may be)
Number three, don't care about what people think, just let them know that you didn't necessarily get it from kissing! :P If people do tease you, just laugh about it, turning it into a big thing will just make things more frustrating on yourself. I got teased about it (even though I know for a fact I didn't get it from kissing!) but I just joked about it.
Number 4, ehhh.. it is most likely >_< Just hope that you didn't! If you start to get a sore throat, or any symptoms, go to your doctor right away. And get lots and lots of rest!!

Sorry this was such a long response but I hope I helped! :]
