so ive never done anything further than making out before but my boyfriend fingered me for the first time last night. it felt alright at first but then it started to hurt. he told me if it hurt that bad, we prob shouldnt have sex but ive always heard that it hurts the first time. was this a bad sign or is it normal ?

Its the same thing when you have sex for the first time: Most likely it will hurt because your vagina is not used to be stretched like that. Of course with practice it will become looser and the pain will subside.
However, for your safety make sure your guy has short fingernails if he is fingering you. You don't want to get a scratch inside your vagina that could lead to an infection. Also, if he has a cut on his finger or hand .. hold off on the fingering. You don't want his open wounds near your private areas for both of yall's sake.
It just takes practice. Start with a less amount of fingers and work your way up until it feels right.
