To wear or not to wear make up?

Question Posted Monday October 19 2009, 3:41 pm

For your information, I'm very plain. I never do anything to myself except tie my hair in a loose pony tail.

I hardly ever dress nice, or wear makeup or anything. I'm 16 years old, and I honestly feel like doing my hair, wearing makeup, wearing nice clothes and all that because I really think it'll help with my self-esteem issues. I've always noticed that I'm more confident whenever I wear makeup or do my hair, or dress nicely whenever I'm gone to a wedding or something.

My mother on the other hand absolutely doesn't want me wearing any makeup besides eyeliner, and lip gloss. She says that make up will ruin my skin, and that I'll become too accustomed to wearing it that I won't like my "real" face.

Anyways..
Do you think I should wear makeup, or should I not?
Share your personal experiences, and opinions. It'd help alot!

makeup is fine if you don't over-do it. choose the colours that match your skin type. if you don't know which colours these are then just type it into google & they'll be lots of sites to help you :) try and apply it correctly also, & again if you need help you can get some guidance from sites on google..or videos on youtube (i always find them best bcos you get a better idea) if you feel more confident wearing makeup, then wear it! it gives everyone confidence & i dont think anyone should not wear it unless they don't want to! explain to your mother that it will help your self-esteem issues. she'll understand! <3

It's all about using the right brand of makeup, looking natural with it on, and knowing how to take care of yourself. You are not trying to look like a different person, just enhance your better features and cover up certain blemishes. You should honestly tell her about this self-esteem issue because that will help your case. If makeup makes you feel good about yourself, I don't see why you shouldn't wear it.. if you think it would help gain yourself confidence starting from the outside in. For example, you're not supposed to go to sleep with makeup on. You can keep it on during the day, but that should be it. Before bed, you should wipe your face clean with makeup remover and take care of your skin. I personally do not like using foundation, but you may find that bareminerals may work for you, which does not clog your pores as much. It's more important to have clear skin instead of putting makeup on. Try to use acne facewash daily and maybe toner and moisturizer if you need it. Have fun experimenting.

Give makeup a try :). Just keep it light, if you and your mom are worried. I only wear concealer and cover up, but it makes a noticable difference. The only way, you'll get "addicted" to makeup is if you pile it on. If you use to much, it'll look cakey. Lighter is always better.

Maybe you can get someone you know to give you a makeover just so you can experiement. Good luck. Hope my advices helps :). -Jenny

Go ahead and wear make up. But your mom is right on some levels. You wear to much make up, and when you take it off you will look like a whole different person. Though if you put on light make up you will look really pretty and when you take it off you wont look at your face and say " where did the other person go". haha

its perfect if you like the way you look, confidence is the biggest beauty. and makeup doesnt ruin skin, skin gets wrinkles easier over manyy years only if you pull alot when puttin on makeup n mainly useing bad makeup remover or cheap makeup. pampering youself gives everyone confidence thats what its for i say, i only wear cover up no matter what but its only because my skin is messed up from being on alota wrong meds, soo many things other than makeup ruin your skin so much more, makeup is at the bottom. but i love eyeliner and expeiramenting with shadow i love drawin designs. no harm done, just ask if you can get one thing of shadow and one of powder to try shel say yes. people with no makeup are the prettiest tho :) if i didnt answer right just say, haha im a bit outa it atm. i hope i helped!
