I REALLY want to practice my acting skills, but i don't know how. Do i just sit in my room and act or what? I don't have a script or monologue to do or anything. The only thing i do is practice an emotion in my room, but that's it and it gets BORING! What can i do by myself?
PS. I have looked all around the internet, but can't seem to find anything. Try and answer ASAP if you can thnx!

Lettie answered Friday October 9 2009, 12:54 am: Frankly, with acting, the best way to practice is to do. I've always found that I grow much more as an actor by asking a director for a little direction. When you read a scene, you tend to form some ideas about the emotions involved, even if it's your first time reading the script. Having a director helps because you get a more in-depth analysis of the script. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. The director will most likely have a perspective on the script that you wouldn't have seen otherwise. I do think borrowing or buying scripts, monologues, and the like is a pretty good idea. Only buy if you know you want to act. Otherwise, borrowing is fine. If you want to get really fancy, try reading a monologue or scene (monologues are generally easier for this since it only requires you). Then read it with an entirely different emotion. There are some scripts this won't work with, but it would be a fun challenge to do the complete opposite of what you just did. I know you said you looked on the Internet, but what were you trying to find? If you were looking for monologues, Actorpoint.com has some good ones. If you wanted scripts or scene books, you're better off at a library. I don't know if you are male or female, but I have a male friend who recently did a marvelous monologue from the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. It was fantastic. I (I am a girl, by the way) had some good luck with the play The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe. It's a play that consists of monologues. Actually, there are a few in there that could work for a guy, but it's mostly female characters. I think the best advice I could give, though, is to find an acting class or community theatre in your area. Like I said in the beginning, the best practice is to do it. That's actually exactly how I got my start. I used to shut myself in my room and act out emotions too. At some point I just knew I wanted to act, so my mom found me some awesome acting classes (I have the best mom on Earth!) :) Now I've been acting for about eight years with no intention to stop. If the acting bug bites you as hard as it bit me, I would advise you to go for as many shows as you can. I hope I've been helpful (sorry I'm so long winded) Best wishes. Break a leg!!! Like timing, facial expressions and gesturing with your body. It's fun and you don't have to shout a monologue around your room b/c people will think you're crazy for talking to yourself! Especially if they don't know that you're just practicing! lol [ LiSaxOBaBii's advice column | Ask LiSaxOBaBii A Question ]

ms_knowitall answered Monday September 28 2009, 6:59 pm: what kind of acting do you like? you like stage acting? like broadway kind of stuff? cause if you do... some of my favorites are, Aida, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera. if you like any of these, go to the library, and try asking if they have any script books, or play books. If they do, rent one! and then pick a part in one of the plays that you could portray, and start reciting the lines. =)
you gonna go to acting school or anything?
gonna pursue your dreams?
