ive have trouble sleeping at knight and its irritating its been going on for years and im not sure if its insomnia or what but my usual time i fall asleep is 11:00 to 12:00 ive tried warm milk and ive tried non sugary cereal but nothing works
It is never easy to shift your usual sleeping time, especially to an earlier hour. Try asking yourself what kind of activities you engage in around the time you are about to fall asleep- anything that keeps your mind going, even just playing around online, will keep your mind alert, which will keep you awake. Stress can also play a big role- if you are stressed out about something (or combination of things),...school, friends, family life, etc., it can be difficult to fall asleep.
Try some of these tips, and gradually see if you can fall asleep quicker in time:
-Do something relaxing for at least half an hour before you want to go to bed- this means no studying, reading, using the internet, etc.- . You could try watching a funny show or movie (nothing scary, thrilling, sad, etc.) for about an hour before bedtime, till you feel tired enough to sleep. You could also listen to some relaxing music, if you like.
-When you have trouble falling asleep, take a hot bath before bed once in a while.
-Do not lie in bed tossing and turning, stressing out about how you cannot fall asleep. Get up and leave your bedroom, and do something relaxing, like watching tv or listening to calm music.
- Do not take sleeping pills, whatever you do. They are not good for your system, you could become dependent, you might wake up feeling even more groggy, etc.
-Set a sleeping schedule, and try your best to stick with it. Try gradually going to bed at a reasonable hour, and get up on time. Stick to this schedule until your body adjusts. Try not to sleep in too much, because then you will be more tired, and will be unable to go to bed on time that night.
If these things have no effect on you at all within a reasonable amount of time (2 weeks to a month), you could consult with your doctor. [ ciao77's advice column | Ask ciao77 A Question ]
asknava answered Thursday September 24 2009, 1:48 am: OK...I wrote two answers because I re-read it a second time and got a different feeling from what you wrote so here is my answer if it is not insomnia 1. Stop taking naps during the day if you are doing that...add a heavy cardio workout before you are ready to go to bed... Wake up earlier...so like if you wake up at like 10 or 11 wake up at 8, if you wake up at 8, wake up at 6 or 7... Watch what you are eating through out the day, are you having green tea? Coffee? Red bulls? Don't get freaked out but...masturbation...one of the health benifits of masturbation (and you can look this up) is that it helps people to fall asleep. In fact I think they tested it out on a bunch of women that had insomnia and it helped the majority of the fall asleep and sleep well. Putting on a meditation tape..those are some ideas. Now this is my ansewr if it is insomnia: 2. I could be wrong...but I Think most people that have insomnia have something on their mind that is keeping them up. I think what you gotta do is pay attention to your thoughts and figure out what's got you so wired. Are you scared, worried, stressed, depressed, anything? Fact is no matter what you take you are going to be awake mentally until you deal with it. I remember when I was having insomnia for a couple months maybe, it was because I has having a lot of fear dreams and general fear thoughts, I was so paranoid that I couldn't sleep. I had to take Rosemarry tea just to be tired enough to sleep and I would still wake up at some point out of fear from my dreams. I had to start meditating more and working on calming down my mind. I also took Folic acid vitamins and vitamin B6 and B12, and drank juice made with cellery, because they are good for calming down the nerves. When I started to do exercises on calming down my mind and dealing with my thoughts and not letting them all bother me, I was able to sleep and eventually the fear dreams went away, and when I did have them I was able to deal with them with a level head. It may be a challenge to go deep inside and figure these things out, but if you want that rest, you may have to go inside your self and deal with some stuff. That is my advice.
