Can't write a song =[

Question Posted Wednesday September 23 2009, 3:35 pm

I want to write a nice song, but everytime I go to write it seems like I just blank out. I want to write a song about how I feel when I'm with my bf, how in love I am with him. But when I put words on paper and read 'em out loud...I fell like it's stupid. :/ Or lame...How can I get started? I'd like to write amazing lyrics like Owl City does, or Lights. Y'know people that have such beautiful music. Anyone able to give advice whom's had experience with song writing and such greatly appreciated! I'm 16 and a girl Oh yeah I play accoustic guitar, and am learning keyboard :P

Hey,
Song writing always comes from the heart and soul. When you are writing, try not to say that it is stupid. If YOU BELIEVE and have FAITH; it WILL work, no matter what.
You can get started by writing all your thoughts onto a page (or pages!). Say everything thats on your mind. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING; even the real simple things. You can always edit later. Do not leave out the simple things for, they always count the most in a relationship and are what are treasured forever.
Write your thoughts about love, your relationship, your time together, and everything He does that makes you: smile laugh live and love him for who He is. Write about the things He says that inspires you to truly live life and want to live it with Him. All songs start from your thoughts, your expieriences, your life, what makes you smile, and what makes your heart all warm inside ;)
It is awesome that you play accoustic guitar and are learning keyboard. Hopefully that will help inspire you as well.
Remember this: Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. <3

I've written a song or two (lies, like thirty or so), and here's some helpful hints:

1. Cliches (see anything anyone else is going to suggest to you on this site) are bad for the most part. You're not going to fully express your love for your boyfriend from stuff OTHER people say. I know this sounds gay and stupid, but make it come from the heart.
2. It doesn't have to rhyme. The best thing about creative writing is that it's CREATIVE! It's your song! I barely rhyme, unless it flows better. Which brings me to my next one...
3. Make it flow. Maybe it's my weird OCD with song writing, but I like to have a nice flowing syllable structure to my songs. I know this goes against creative, shut up. That's just me. A song that flows goes nicely on the ears.
4. Fuck what EVERYONE ELSE thinks. I cant express this enough. Whose song is it? IT'S YOUR MOTHER FUCKING SONG! If you like it, then what the hell else matters?!?

Now I want you to go and WRITE THE SHIT OUT OF THIS SONG! If you get lyrics written and want some advice, feel free to send them to my inbox. I'll give them a gander.

OH! Another piece of advice. Don't try too hard. I guess it also goes along with the gay cliche about "letting it come from the heart", but if you have to put too much thought into it, you're going to force a song. Don't force, when it comes to you it will.

what i would do is write out some sentences of how i feel when im with him.
like: : "his arm wrapped around me tight" "He made me feel like i can do anhything"
After that just put them together and altar them so they fit.

if that doesn't help you try searching the net for some ideas to help get you started.
Here are some more ideas for you song:
-I can't live without you
-when your not here my life is not the same.
-together forever
-when you look at me and tell me you love me

-abbie xxx
