RealLifeComonSense answered Friday October 2 2009, 12:41 am: Well, you actually answer your own question when you mention that the bible says that only God knows. It's true. We are living in the last days or last hours of this world. God has a set time when he will unleash Armageddon using his one and only son, Jesus Christ, to bring the final war of all wars. People believe all kinds of things. And yes, they will try to scare you for good and bad reasons. In order to persuade you to join their religion or to encourage you to do better or whatever. I can't give you a specific time when the world would come to an end. Because nobody knows for sure. Of course we can sense it. Throughout the years, people have thought that other years like 1975, 2000, the world was coming to an end. In conclusion, again only God knows his exact time. But now, Jesus, Satan, everybody-that's informed knows that it is close to an end. The Mayans don't know shit. The world was supposed to end in 2000, and on 6/6/06 and we're still here. Therefore, these little conspiracy theories about when the world is going to end are BULLSHIT, and we need to stop giving them attention because people are panicking over something completely ridiculous.
orphans answered Sunday September 13 2009, 3:04 pm: i'll give u an explanation.
about a few years ago, some person came up with an idea about the world ending on 12/21/2012. and mixed with the fact that the mayan calendar ends on that date. but guess what.
the mayans have been dead for a shitload of time, so people shouldnt care about what the mayans think.
and also, they are making a movie coming out this year called "2012" starring john cusack.
the idea of the world ending on 2012 is just another way to market ideas and advertise it to the whole world. Just like how people market the death of Michael jackson. And if they are making a movie about "2012", obviously.....its not gonna be real.
Alin75 answered Sunday September 13 2009, 2:59 pm: Of course its a load of nonsense.
This kind of stuff is as old as humanity. Sometimes there is outright evil intent- in the sense that someone is trying to profit from it in some way. Other times people genuinely believe in what they are saying. Either way, no good comes of it.
Mind you, I do not consider the bible to be one bit better. The fact that it is generally accepted in Western culture does not mean that it is more legitimate. Psychics, prophets, clergymen etc, all expect people to just blindly accept what they are saying without offering one ounce of proof to back it up. And that is something that one should always be critical of in my opinion.
I have no idea about this particular prediction. I remember the end of the world predicted for 2000, as well as numerous doomsday predictions made in the 80s.
Most of the psychics there were after personal publicity (and hence money).I think you will find that money and power are most often behind these things.
orphans answered Sunday September 13 2009, 2:53 pm: it dont matter what the bible says- i think saying "only god knows when the world will end" is more threatening than "the world is going to end in 2012"...atleast the latter has a time frame so you expect it...they both are fiction.
now to the answer...the mayan callender ends at 2012...the mayans were wayyy ahead of their time with astrology. Some people reckon the calender ends because the world will end. Others just say that its because they didnt have the rescources to go further, etc.
