If I were to fill up a car with a full tank of gas how many miles would I get until I had to fill it up again (given, it isn't highway driving but not too many stops and turns?) Just an approximate amount?

go empty, go fill it up note the gallons it took to fill, note the mileage or clear the trip meter , drive. You can then at the next filling record how many miles you went. divide the gallons by the miles and youll get miles per gallon. as to exactly what your vehicle is without knowing some info i really dont know and i dont think anyone can say. all cars have different size of engines (displacement), # cylinders, loads, size on fuel tanks, and size of vehicle and weight.
the new standar calls not for MPG ( mile per gallons) but more of Gallons per mile...wierd i know. I hope this helps [ sobeg's advice column | Ask sobeg A Question ]

So usually under normal driving, you should do a fill up about every 300 miles or so.
If your fuel gauge is broken i'd look up the tank capacity in the manual or on the internet. then go about 200 miles on a full tank, fill up and see how much you used up. look at the amount of extra gas you put in to the tank. it should be 1/2 or less the stated capacity of your tank in the manual. if all is normal i wouldnt feel too daring to go 300 miles or so.

LM answered Sunday August 30 2009, 1:10 am: It depends on your car's mileage. Find it using a Google search (look for city driving numbers, not highway). Then figure out how many gallons are in your gas tank, and multiply that by your mpg rating (mileage). That's a rough estimation of how far you'll be able to drive before your next fill-up.
I personally don't like driving around with less than 1/4 of a tank(the idea of having my car break down in the middle of nowhere is unappealing), so I usually put about 12 gallons into my car every fill up :]
