AA meetings are primarily for Alcoholics, yes. However, if you're going for drug addiction problems (especially for heroin/opiate addiction) and there are no NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings near you, the AA meetings are a good, safe place for you to go to begin your recovery.

Good luck, it's a hard road to take but recovery and sobriety are worth every second.

It is only for alcoholics, however, the family of alcoholics can attend. There are different support groups for various other addicts, including heroine. A quick google search can help you find one if your area if you or someone you know needs help.
