Period Problems

Question Posted Monday July 27 2009, 8:59 pm

I wear pads when I have my period, but the only way I can sleep without staining the bed is on my front. I think that position is contributing to my monthly back pains. Any advice?

I would switch to tampons. Pads tend to be easier to soak through, and they're just uncomfortable in general.

When I wore pads, I almost always bled threw whether I was sleeping, at school, etc. It was embarassing. With tampons, I didn't & don't have that problem. They're much more comfortable (you don't feel every leak & can dress comfortable).

Just make sure you don't wear them for longer than 8 hours, and make sure that you use the absorbancy that goes hand in hand with your flow. You need to remember that tampons cause TSS and it is a fatal disease. But if you're careful it won't happen. :)

If you live near a Walgreens or a CVS, they sell "over night pads." They're longer and wider so they can absorb more. As embarrassing as it seems, one of my friends used to wear adult diapers to bed so she wouldn't stain her sheets, but if you used them only you would know, so who cares? Secondly, that definitely is contributing to your back pain. Sleeping like that makes your head choose a side either left or right, and therefore can affect your back because they're connected by your spine. Lastly, you could also buy a bed liner (thin plastic sheet, goes under your sheets) so you don't stain your mattress as well.

Hope I helped :)

My Advice would be to either buy longer pads where they cover everything and it would be so easy to stain the bed or but a thick towel or ratty blanket that you don't care about under you so if it does leak it won't go throw and stain. another good idea is maybe to switch to tampons. they will be uncomfortable at first but when you get used to them it will feel like nothing is there and you can also wear a back up pad so it would be very hard or near impossible to stain the sheet since you have double protection.
