why not hire someone without a high school education?

Question Posted Wednesday July 22 2009, 12:37 pm

18/f

Is there anyway that someone without a highschool education can get a job?? I've applied everywhere and its like no one wants to hire me..I understand not having an education or highschool diploma lowers my chances in working anywhere but I'm in need of a job I dropped out in 8th grade and I have no education what so ever ..and when applyingg what could I say to have them atleast look at my application?

I agree with the others; you need to get some other form of education. In today's economy and job market, EVERYBODY is looking for a job, and why would an employer hire someone uneducated over someone who did complete high school? It's not like without your application you'd have no other options. Sorry :( For the time being, your best shot is to give them a good reason as to why you dropped out. It was a pretty major decision, so why'd you do it? If you have a legitimate, good excuse (needing to take care of sick family would be a good one. Dropping out when you had all the means to continue is not), you can explain it and hopefully some place will be sympathetic. Honestly, though, don't get your hopes up too high. It's a tough situation. Good luck!

As you've seen, in this day and age you need some sort of education to get a job.

The one way to get your resume looked at is to start with continuing your high school. That shows that you have initiative and want to better yourself.

Thing is, even with just high school, you'll end up with a job, and nothing more. What I would aim for is a career.

There are tons of programs out there that can get you educated quickly in a field you'll enjoy, and will help you with financing. Think about what you're passionate about. Not everyone needs to be a surgeon or a lawyer; everyone does need to be happy in their line of work!

Well... No place very good is going to hire you. Fast food places maybe, but where I work we won't even hire non-high school grads for the lowest position. That's just the nature of the market at this place. No place wants someone uneducated.

Advice? Get your GED. It doesn't take long and really it only tests to like an 8th grade education anyway. Then at least you have your Good Enough Degree and can get slightly better job.

More advice. Get some student loans after you get your GED and get an associate's degree in something, anything, at like a community college. It doesn't really matter what your degree is in so long as you have one and people think about giving you more money.

Seriously, a GED minimum is the only way you're going to be able to do anything except flip burgers and McD's for the rest of your life.
