So I just got my period today (not for like the first time in my life, I've had it since last September) and I know how to deal with it and all, but what I don't know is how do I go swimming with my period? My friends keep inviting me to the pool or the beach and I really want to go but I'm afraid something bad will happen...I've never worn a tampon in my life, by the way, and I don't know how to...I'm afraid I'd do it wrong or something. Also, I've never faced this problem because the only times I've had my period, it was like the winter, and now it's the summer... So...any advice please? thanks!

I HATED tampons, I remember trying to put one in but i just COULDN'T. and i never thought i was doing it right, and one time when i actually got it in, i felt it, which meant i did something wrong, or maybe I was thinking about it too much, and actually didn't feel it, but it was all in my head.. I dont know. and then right when i got it in i wanted to take it out because this "foreign" object was in me and i didn't like it, because it felt weird, yuh know ? so I take it out, and it hurttttt, because you have to leave it in until its soaked, I forgot that fact. and after that I was so scared that it was gonna hurt again, that i didnt want to do it. I mean, I was SO TENSE that it hurt putting it in and i stuck to pads.
so with that said, about 2 weeks ago I got my period while down the shore with my friends.. and I told them that i was never able to put one in and all of that, they told me to just do it, bought me a pack of tampons and i sat on the toilet and just ... did it. it wasn't bad at all. because i was relaxed about it, and if you don't thin about it, it's not so bad :] so i wore the tampon, but remember ! get the light ones, the really skinny one, like super skinny when you first try to put it in, i suggest tampax pearl, they are the easiest to use. and when you put it in, leave it in until you think you're leaking, because, trust me, pulling it out is not a good experience. haha. it's one you want to try to avoid :] but only leave it for 8 hours.
You just gotta do it. Don't think about it that much, OR if you want to motivate yourself, be like, "i gotta do this cuz i wanna swim with my friends." it really sucks being the only one sitting out because you're wearing a pad, i would know :/ so go out and buy the SUPERSKINNY tampons [tampax pearl] sit on the toilet, relax yourself, and take a couple of deep breaths. you can do this :]
good luck, hope I helped, and don't sweat it, it's scary at first, but you got thiss. if you need anything else, anymore help, feel free to inbox me ! xxo. [ itdependsonyoux3's advice column | Ask itdependsonyoux3 A Question ]

But I got Tampax Pearl small and it was perfect because the plastic makes it super easy to slide in and it wasnt uncomfortable at all. (Plus, you can leave them in for eight hours!) I'd try that. My life is SOOO much easier now that I use tampons, no stress or anything. Trust me, you gotta do it sometime and you shouldnt let you period or thus fear stop you from living your life. Using a tampon is not hard at all, no worries, just go for it. [ katwashala's advice column | Ask katwashala A Question ]

It's fine to be a little imtimidated the first few times as they do appear scary. You can get tampons specifically designed for first timers. They are slimmer and smaller than regular ones.
Make sure you've got a bit of time and you won't be disturbed and go into the bathroom. Lay out the instructions from the pack somewhere you can see them. Make sure you are relaxed, as if you tense up it will be harder and possibly painful.
