I have heard stories about there being some lore about a tree on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill. It seems to vary from the school burning if the tree falls to couples that sit under such tree will get married. Does anyone know anything about the myths. I would just like to know what the "official" myth is.
Also, if you know anything about a Silent Sam myth. That info would be appreciated as well.
Look for the heading "Sweet Carolina". There's a paragraph about the tree, as well as drinking out of a well.
Silent Sam:
"The University of North Carolina has a statue memorial for UNC alumni who died fighting for the Confederacy in the Civil War. The statue is a bronze soldier named Silent Sam. Legend has it that the soldier will shoot his rifle if a virgin passes by."
Oh, and at URI, students call a cannon on the grounds the "Virgin Cannon" meaning that it'll fire when a virgin graduates from that college. And it's never gone off. Same kind of thing =D
