Why does Michael Jackson's family want a second autopsy done?

Question Posted Saturday June 27 2009, 7:04 pm

I totally loved and miss Michael Jackson. I was anxious for the autopsy on Michael Jackson to be done and when it was my friend told me (because I don't have TV) that the family is requesting a second autopsy to be performed! Why?!

This makes me think that Michael Jackson was murdered or committed suicide! I mean, lots of people believed he hurt children so I understand the possibility of him being murdered is something to think about, and with all of the stress of people thinking those horrible thoughts it would make sense for him to finally snap and take his own life. I hope neither of those happened but I want to know!

What did they find out in the autopsy? Was it not cardiac arrest, which was first thought to be the reason of Michael Jackson's death?

i heard they wanted it because there was a possibility that he was doing drugs or something, and they probably want to know if the drugs had anything to do with his alleged heart attack.

A second autopsy isn't uncommon in controversial cases or ones where new information is constantly coming to light about his final days. The first autopsy may have missed crucial things that his doctor (who they can't locate) may know about his health.

It's done to be thorough and to have two professional opinions and consensus. It doesn't mean the decedent was murdered nor committed suicide. Often this is done in civil, wrongful death and criminal cases. Remember, if this doctor of his did something that caused his death they can be investigated and charged with:

manslaughter |ˈmanˌslôtər|
noun
the crime of killing a human being without malice aforethought, or otherwise in circumstances not amounting to murder : the defendant was convicted of manslaughter.

Also, when cause of death is still TBA the case is a HOMICIDE until they list it as accidental, suicide or natural causes and a medical examiner signs the death certificate. It doesn't mean murder etc etc. It's standard police form.
