Also, watch out for your carbs. Carbs are complex sugars, meaning they'll keep his glucose level up longer than sugar. My dad had to limit a meal no more than 25 carbs. It was an easy task for him after awhile. Candies can be sugar free, but can still contain carbs. Check the label before buying.
