The last answer is pretty accurate, but let me add in one thing. Most TV's nowadays have a VGA input in the back, the same kind of cord that connects a computer tower to a monitor. You can buy one cheap and hook your laptop up to the TV, using it as a monitor, if you don't happen to have a desktop in the house. That should tide you over until you can get another laptop. In the case of a large HDTV like mine, it also makes it freakin awesome to download movies onto.

I did the same thing last summer :(

Unfortunately, that screen is toast. They will be able to replace it, but it often costs around $400-$500, if not more. So it may be worth your while to just get a new laptop.

In the meantime, you can always connect your laptop to a desktop monitor, so your documents aren't all lost!
