what to write in a thank you note

my ex and i broke up. his mom came to my work when i wasnt working and asked about me. she asked about my accident (i fell off a horse) and she asked how i was doing after the break up. i just want to write her a thank you card, what should i write in it?

She's concerned about you and probably fond of you. Just thank her and tell her you really appreciate her concern for you and that you'd like to stay in touch, despite the break up. Tell her that your relationship with her has nothing to do with her son.

Of course, this is assuming you want to stay in touch. If not, just thank her for her concern.

Just write what you feel. She'll appreciate that more than anything else you could do. Or take her on a lunch date and thank her in person.
