You all know that when you stay in water for a long time, your hands get all wrinkled.
I would like to know why this happens and if it could be a health risk ?
After being soak in water for a certain amount of time, the oily matter, sebum , begins to come off, and your hands begin to absorb water.
Skin absorbs too much water ---> causes it to swells
But because the epidermis (outer skin) does not connected to your dermis underneath it in all places, the places where it doesn't connect expands.
And that's why your hand get all wrinkled.
And no, there's no health risk, at least not unless the water is poisonous or boiling. The water will evaporate eventually and new layer of sebum will be secrete by the sebaceous glands. Your skin will be back to normal in no time. [ ThirdQED's advice column | Ask ThirdQED A Question ]
