animosity between two people close to me

Question Posted Tuesday April 7 2009, 6:26 pm

Hi,

22/m here. I have two friends. Let's call them Craig and Alex. I've known Alex longer, but Craig and I are closer and are practically best friends. Craig and Alex didn't know each other before though. I'm the connecting link in between.

Anyway, so I try to hang out with both of them together and maybe all 3 of us can be friends. Craig is really shy, but he's been loosening up a bit around Alex. Last week though, we were just joking around and stuff and Alex made a crack at Craig that made Craig upset. Alex doesn't know he made Craig upset and i'm 100% sure that wasn't his intention. I think Alex is just getting comfortable having Craig around so he's joking around with him even more to kind of help us all bond. Craig took it personal though and thought it meant Alex doesn't like him or thinks badly of him. So, now Craig doesn't really want to be around Alex. Alex has no idea what's going on and I feel bad being around Alex because i'm sure he has no idea about how Craig feels.

Now, i'm kind of caught between these two friends. I wish Craig could understand that Alex wasn't being mean-spirited, but I guess Craig is a little paranoid because of past experiences with old friends. :(

I feel like a mediator here between and just want everything to be okay and have times where I can spend it with both of them and not have to choose one or the other. What should I do? Should I do anything at all? Will Craig eventually come around? Should I even tell Alex?

You definitely need to tell Alex. Craig isn't going to, and since you are the connecting link, then you should tell him.

Maybe when you tell Alex, he'll contact Craig & they can meet up to talk about what happened. If you feel the need, explain to Craig what happened with Alex & maybe he'll reconcile.

I have a friend like Craig, so I know how you feel.

Hello,

Well... I think it would probable be better to pull the two of them together.. Sit them down, and explain.

Tell Alex how Craig feels. I mean if he didn't mean anything by it, he'll deffently want to apologize. Alex and Craig probable havent grown close enough to catch each others puns! I mean it'll be easier if they give one-another another chance. I mean if there your friends, they'll see there must be a reason why you're friends with they other!
So perhaps give it a try, and try to brake the icy bridge between the two of them! : ) you can probable do it, considering you're the middle person.
