What I do, is sleep in braids.

After you get out of the shower, put some mousse in your hair (Garnier works best) and then let it start drying for about 5 minutes. Then, put your hair into 2 braids (not too tight, not too lose) and sleep on it. Take it out in the morning, ruffle your hair a bit, and spray it with some hairspray.

Best of luck :)

my hair is about the same length as yours. What I find to work is to put my favorite mouse, or any curl/wave styling product, and apply it liberally to my hair when its wet. I make sure not to get it on my scalp or too close to the root because that can cause it to look oily or flat. I then put my hair up in a messy bun until it isnt too wet, but just a little damp. Make sure you brush it before you put it up! take it back down, and scrunch it up from ends to roots and let it dry the rest of the way naturally.
This should give you natural looking waves.
If your hair doesnt hold shape well, try using a flexable hold hair spray.
