does anyone have unconventional ways to fall asleep? like does listening to white noise help?

I listen to the radio but not channels with music on. I don't know where you are, but in the UK we have BBC Radio 4 which has plays, news, general topical shows etc. I find that because generally the voices are at the same tone/level it helps to fall asleep. Also if you're listening to whatever's on it distracts you from anything else you might be thinking about that's keeping you up. ]
I have a sound soother that has sounds like white noise, ocean waves, rainfall, summer night, etc. It really helps me when I can't fall asleep; I recommend getting one :)

I use 3 mg of melatonin (Walmart or most grocery stores/cheap and non-habit forming) and I use an alarm clock that has different 'noise' optons...like rain, waves, brooks, etc. as background noise.
Also, a relaxation tape that walks you through breathing and relaxing your body works for me. I am out before I work my way past my legs. ]
