Question Posted Saturday February 28 2009, 8:58 am
I have no idea what I did. I didn't install anything or do anything I don't usually do.
I turn on my laptop, it goes to 'Disk Check' due to some error. It doesn't even move from 0% in 30 minutes so I shut down and turn on my laptop again and skip the disk check.
My desktop loads up and I get this message: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Everything seems fine except my laptop speakers don't work anymore.
When I go to Control Panel, it says that there are no speakers.
But there are, and they were working on earlier on this morning.
What now?

Letting the disc check run it course when you restart the computer takes a while but it does help.
I'd suggest restarting it and letting it run while you are off doing something else or overnight maybe.
I have put it off a day or two and it doesn't seem to hurt anything.
Yesterday I also lost my sound. How weird is that?
I looked and looked and could not fix it. What I did was a system restore (found under pc help & tools in start up menu for windows XP) I restored it back to the day before when I knew it was working. It works fine now! [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
Myrrha answered Saturday February 28 2009, 8:33 pm: run a full virus scan of your computer to make sure there isn't one. I would recomment downloading a new free virus program like AVG, because many viruses now days manipulate virus programs so they won't be detected. If there isn't some sort of virus, it could be a device driver error. There should be an option to look for updated drivers for your pc. Here is also a website with some info on some ways to possibly fix your error. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
good luck, if that doesnt work, do some more googling, there's tons of info online. [ Myrrha's advice column | Ask Myrrha A Question ]

See if there are any questions marks. if there are you need that driver. I would restart again. [ fleebailey33's advice column | Ask fleebailey33 A Question ]
