A question to ONLY people who have dyed their hair
Question Posted Friday February 27 2009, 10:55 pm
This is specifically for people who have dyed their hair (preferably at a salon).
I AM A HAIR DYE VIRGIN!!!! who has always wanted to dye her hair
But my boyfriends mom just informed me that her hairdresser (who did hair for contestants in the miss usa pageant!!!!) does her hair for free (she does his taxes or something) and that he could do mine for free also!
So the question is;
Did it KILL your hair? If you only did it once. Like, how does your hair feel? I don't want my hair to be stringy. How long does it take?
Any advice is appreciated! (FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE DYED THEIR HAIR!)
But if you only dye it every couple a months it should be ok.
Bleaching will kill your hair , it does leave it stringy and dry but if you use a proffesional shampoo, or a good one - it will be in good condition
I dyed my hair bright lumionous red and I absoloutly loved it!!! My hair was soft and smooth and it looked really glossy too. It really made feel confident!!
I guess whenever you dye your hair you have to make sure you look after it carefully. & if your straighten it too much - that could kill your hair too.
But on the whole , what you're doing, you hair will NOT go bad. And how long it takes...well it depends what you're having done to your hair and what sort of dye it is. I was doing sections in my hair and I put it in and I had to wait an hour and then wash it out.

Well, Before I dyed my hair, it was extremely curly... But after a while, I wanted a new look and got red on the tips of my hair.. Then I got Red highlights... Then I dyed my hair black.. and now I can't get rid of the orangy color due to the highlights.. and my hair is all dead looking.. not at the roots, but definitely towards the bottom... BUT I also straighten my hair at the salon every so often... Dying your hair may take a while so be prepared to stay there for hours lol. Good luck!

However, I wouldn't suggest dying your hair too often (2 or more times a month) because then you will destroy your hair. I would suggest semi-permanent for the first time depending on what brand you use it can last from a week to about a month and a half. If you are looking for a lighter color and you have dark hair you will want to use a hair lightner also try purchasing moisterizing conditioner (To repair hair) and use that once you are finished dying your hair. After dying your hair do not wash it for 24 hours if you do then it's more likely the dye will come out in the shower. Semi-permanent dye will come out little by little in the shower it is normal and eventually it will fade away and you will have to dye it again. Sally's is probably the best hair product to go too, I've been to Walmart, CVS, Rite Aide and Sally's seems to have the longest lasting brand.

Don't dye your hair black, even if it's a semi-permanent. Black does not come out, and it's a pain in the behind to remove.
I would suggest a semi-permanent dye for your first time or two. It starts to fade within a month or so, so you don't get crazy roots like you do with regular dye. Because nothing looks nastier than contrasting roots.
If you are going lighter and don't know if you want to keep it that way, try highlights the first time. That way, they look fairly natural growing out.
