Question Posted Sunday December 28 2008, 6:36 pm
Im 15 years old and would really like to start writing a book. I don't just want any kind of book but i want a best selling book. I know this is just a dream but i would love for my book to be made into a movie one day. I like fantasy novels, like Eragon, Harry Potter, and Twilight. Before i begin writing, i would like to know what will it take for me to have a best selling book?? Also i would like to know what do you think some good ideas would be for a book. I personally was thinking of maybe something about werewolfs. What do you think?
-thank you

Just write from the heart and figure out who you want to reach. Then you have to of course learn about writing, First of all just write, get your ideas down, use dreams, that's what i do. Take things you have seen that you thought to your self i could make that better or do better than that. Recreate it in your own way. Figure out what you like and what you don't like in other people's books and do your work based on that. Then when you have some stuff, go to the library and figure out how to really make it professional. From there you just have to find someone to publish you or be willing to be your agent. Being a best seller is just about reaching the audience and people like it, you just never know which book it's going to be, it might be your first it might be your 5th or 10th, you just gotta do it and see where it takes you. If you really want it made into a movie, get with writers and directors, talk about it, meet people, this is how things like this happen, someone reads it and is inspired or the writer goes out and promotes it. But there is no goal that is too big, we all start off as babies and we can all amount to anything beautiful and wonderful. Just believe in your self no matter what happens. Peace. However, the first rule to writing a best selling book is: Reach your audience. Think about who your audience is going to be. Will teenagers like this book? Or adults? Maybe Pre-teens? Maybe all of those? You, the author, need to be able to get into character in order to write that character and make the character alive and real, rather then just a stereotype. You need the characters to be real and for them to be able to touch your audience. However, it's not all just writing. It's also writing properly. This one's a pain for me, but you have to always remember grammar and spelling or your idea, no matter how awesome, won't even get past the editors. As to the question "What should it be about?" I believe it should be about whatever the author creates. If I told you what to write about, you wouldn't have come up with it, therefore wouldn't be as inspired. So, I think a book about werewolves is a great idea :) Let your imagination take it from there, and goodluck! Hope I helped!
