Huge Cell Phone Bill

Question Posted Saturday September 6 2008, 3:50 pm

I'm 16 & just got my first cell phone about a month or so ago. My mother just got the first bill, and I went over everything {text, minutes, & data} and she has to pay a $212 phone bill for me. She said she wasn't going to take my phone away THIS time. The problem is my bill cycle JUST started over and I'm already over everything again. How do I find a way to pay for this? And how do I approach my mom?

If you have a contract plan i would suggest you cancel it and get a prepaid plan.

Be honest about it. First, stop using your phone, then tell your mum. Perhaps you can offer to help pay for it. If you don't have a job, you may be lucky enough to be able to help out around the house (cleaning/gardening etc) At least that way, you're actually paying the consequences and being mature about it by willing to help.

Be truthful - do you use your phone too much? You really should cut down because it's not fair on your mother. The first time was an accident, but you should have learnt your lesson and not use your phone so much this time.
Also, if the phone plan you're on at the moment isn't enough for you (which it sounds like it isn't!) ask your mum to change or upgrade.

You will need to talk to your service provider about your options, or switch cell phone services. My boyfriend wasn't pleased with his first bill because there was a misunderstanding and there was extra no charge (after the first bill, which is a month. so kinda like a trial) for canceling.
