Period.

Question Posted Tuesday September 2 2008, 6:34 am

I got my first period 11 days ago.
It stopped on day 5 in the evening. Then in the afternoon of day 6, it started again a little lighter but still. Then that evening it stopped again. It kept starting and stopping right up until this morning, and it still hasn't stopped for good.

I know that a period is supposed to last 4 to 10 days, but is it supposed to start and stop like this? It's my first...

It is completely normal especially if it is your first. Your period isn't going to be regular for awhile and even when it does become regular it could still stop and start again. Annoying I know but welcome to becoming a woman :) xox Summer

That's perfectly normal. It's your first, so it's bound to be irregular. It generally takes a few years for your period to become regular. Don't worry about it.

Completely. I've had it for three years now and that is my basic cycle. It starts out heavy for the first two days and usually stops or goes really light around the fourth or fifth day and then it starts back up again. Mine last usually just about a week(7 days). You have nothing to worry about! Good luck :]

well there is your answer...it's your first. I can take up to two years for a period to regulate. You may have irregular periods or skip periods for the next two years, but if the trend continues after two years I would suggest seeing a gynecologist about getting on birth control to regulate it.
