Wisdom teeth- facial swelling?

Question Posted Wednesday August 27 2008, 3:33 am

So I got my wisdom teeth out, and my face is starting to swell up. I know this is normal, just wondering what I can do to minimize it and make it go away faster.
Got all four out.
Have a prescription for Vicodin but I'm not taking it unless I have to, it makes me sick.

Avoid extremely hot & cold foods. It will make the pain a lot worse. Try to sleep on your back, so your cheeks aren't touching pillows because that can cause a lot of swelling. Keep cold washclothes and ice on it as much as possible which will cause the swelling to go down.

Good luck!

If you can keep the area cold that should help. I was told to use ice packs when I had mine removed and they seemed to work quite well. Only down side to that is that it was quite uncomfortable... but I guess everything has a price :)
