Our bodies are made up of 60% water and if you think about it, that's a lot. However, those 60% of water is necessary for us to live a healthy life. So when people say "That's just water weight," it usually is said when someone complains about gaining a pound or two. Everyday, our bodies are going to go from 1 pound less to two pounds more to two pounds less, etc. It'll fluctuate.

However, your body can retain more water than necessary (if you're very sedentary or if you eat a lot of salt, for example) and that can be excess water weight.

There is not real way to tell how much of your weight is excess water weight. But in short, everyone has water weight if you think about it.

Getting those pounds off just from water weight, however, is a terrible and silly idea. Water is vital for us to live a healthy life. If you try to get rid of the water, you'll dehydrate yourself. Also, you gain water weight back in a snap so it's kind of pointless.

If you want to lose weight, try by exercising regularly and eating healthy. You'll be losing excess fat you may not want rather than water weight. And unlike water weight, those pounds will more likely stay off.
