I play field hockey too ( :D ) and I probably eat about 4000-5000 calories a day during seasons. Now this coulddd be because my team is extremely good and were really intense, but still.
Eating 2000 calories is not that much for an entire day, even for people that don't excersize. An athlete should EASILY be eating about 3000, and thats as a minimum .
Those 500 calories will be burned. You are always constantly burning calories, even during your sleep.
So dont worry about a small 500 calories, especially if your active. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]

Assuming you eat 2,000 calories or so a day, you just burned off that much. 500 extra calories aren't going to hurt you. If you're in good shape (which you sound like you are since you play field hockey) it's probably going to amount to nothing, assuming you're not working out and then pigging out all the time.
