New to Facebook.

Question Posted Thursday August 21 2008, 3:37 pm

I am new to Facebook and just received a lot of friend requests from people I know, but didn't expect to add me. Did they manually choose me or did a request just get sent to me because we went to the same high school? thanks!

Facebook is just like that, you add pretty much anyone from your highschool even if you hardly talk to them. Its just a way to keep up with everyone. Plus its easy to find people from your school because you can just do a search of your class and most people just go down the list and add everyone.

They manually add you.
Sometimes, on the News Feed it has something like "____ just joined facebook and doesnt have a lot of friends." Stuff like that. Also, on the side there is a panel that has "People You May Know". Your name could have come up there.

Facebook cant just request friends, so no just because you go to the same highschool, it wont send out a request.
If you need some more fb help, just ask in my inbox im an expert!

Facebook doesn't do friend requests automatically. It does however have a feature where people can look up their friends according to the high school they went to. So, they manually chose you from a list, a list which probably you were included in because you went to the same high school. Did that make sense?

they could have manually chosen you. there is also a feature on the side that says "people you may know" and it may have had you listed because of mutual friends. so it could be either :) you can ask people if it says something like the following on their newsfeed:

YOUR NAME HERE is now friends with PERSON WHO ADDED YOU. PERSON WHO ADDED YOU found them through the People You May Know tool.

so you can find out that way too :) and if it just says "YOUR NAME HERE is now friends with PERSON WHO ADDED YOU" that means they manually chose you. so if you ask someone if it says that on their newsfeed you can find out :)

Sometimes it says "So and so is new to your school. Would you like to add them?" but not every time. Plus, you could have shown up in the "People You May Know" box.

I add people on Facebook I don't talk to much or really know that well even if they go to my school. Maybe they just want to get to know you better?
